Her Legacy
HER LEGACY
Vulnerability transformed into courage and hope.
Soraya
Soraya was a complete artist in the purest sense of the word: composer, multi-instrumentalist, producer, and arranger. Born in the United States to Colombian roots, she possessed a unique ability to merge her two worlds, using her absolute mastery of English and Spanish to create a musical language that knows no borders.
Her creative process was exceptional and visionary: unlike other artists, Soraya composed her albums in both languages simultaneously, writing and producing each work organically so that it maintained its essence in both English and Spanish. This philosophy marked a milestone in 1996 with her debut album, “En Esta Noche / On Nights Like This,” followed in 1997 by “Torre de Marfil / Wall of Smiles.” Both works consolidated her unique vocal style: a voice that navigated naturally between sweetness and power, conveying an honest vulnerability that connected immediately with the listener’s soul.
More than a performer, Soraya was a respected “musician’s musician.” She was recognized for her technical mastery of the guitar, mandolin, and violin, instruments she herself recorded to imprint an artisanal texture to her work. Her lyrical brilliance allowed her to create hits for figures such as Ricky Martin and the duo Ha*Ash, in addition to collaborating with global legends like Sting, Natalie Merchant, Alejandro Sanz, Juanes, and Zucchero. Her work with the iconic Carole King stands out especially, with whom she co-wrote songs for her second album. This versatility led her to tour the world with successful international tours, performing before massive audiences in places as diverse as Germany, France, Canada, Australia, Spain, and throughout Latin America, demonstrating that her music was a universal bridge.
In 2000, while preparing the release of her third album, “Cuerpo y Alma / I’m Yours,” her life faced a challenge she knew intimately. Having lost her mother, grandmother, and aunts to breast cancer, Soraya received the same diagnosis at age 31. Faced with this family legacy, she chose courage over silence, becoming the first Latin public figure to speak openly about her diagnosis, breaking deeply rooted cultural taboos. Her close relationship with the Susan G. Komen® foundation, where she served as the first Latina Ambassador, transformed her struggle into a global mission for early detection.
From this process was born her anthem of resilience, “Por ser quien soy / No One Else.” Created specifically as a song of struggle and hope, this song holds a unique value in her catalog: it does not belong to any studio album, but rather was a gift of strength to the world.
Her triumphant return to the stage was historic and filled with recognition. In 2004, her self-titled album “Soraya” was awarded the Latin GRAMMY®, making her the first artist to win in the Best Singer-Songwriter Album category. Her excellence continued with her final album production, “El Otro Lado de Mi” (2005), which was also honored with a GRAMMY® nomination in the Best Female Pop Vocal Album category, closing her career at the pinnacle of the music industry alongside the publication of her autobiographical book “Con las cuerdas rotas / Soraya A Life of Music, A Legacy Of Hope.”
Soraya’s legacy remains alive as a testament to technical perfection and emotional sensitivity; a constant light that reminds us that, even with broken strings, the music of an authentic life continues to play forever.

WITH BROKEN STRINGS
a story of resilience and fulfillment (Book in Spanish)
“The condition that allows me to write this book is simple: having lived a life that is more than ordinary. Every day I have strived not to let time simply pass. I have set out to squeeze it, savor it, and try to be a better human being with each passing second.”
~ Soraya
More than an autobiography, this book is the intimate testimony of a woman who decided to live with purpose in the face of adversity. In these pages, Soraya opens her heart to narrate her journey: from her roots and her rise in music, to her courageous personal battle. With the same honesty with which she composed her songs, Soraya teaches us that, even when life seems to break our strings, the melody of our essence never stops playing. It is a guide of hope and a legacy of strength for anyone seeking to transform their challenges into light.

A Life of Music, A Legacy of Hope
Soraya had an extraordinary capacity to learn from adversity.
SORAYA: A Life of Music, A Legacy of Hope is her autobiography and her way of continuing her mission. Soraya’s editors decided to divide her story into three distinct sections:
- The Roots: Soraya’s family history and childhood, up to her first album.
- The Rise: Soraya’s leap to fame, her cancer diagnosis, her comeback, and commitment to her mission.
- The Race: The last 18 months of Soraya’s life and her race to make a lasting difference.
Each of these three sections includes original autobiographical chapters written by Soraya, as well as “Memories,” accounts written by those who knew her best. Through the stories and photographs presented in the pages of “Memories,” the public can discover what the humble Soraya would never say about herself: that, in the final years of her life, she had become a world-class humanitarian and one of the finest songwriters of her generation.
NO ONE ELSE the anthem of a warrior
NO ONE ELSE
the anthem of a warrior
There are songs that are born for the charts, and there are works that are born to save lives. “No one else” is Soraya’s most personal legacy: an anthem of resilience created specifically to give voice and strength to those facing the battle against cancer.
This piece holds a unique value in her career, as it does not belong to any studio album; it was conceived as a pure message of hope and courage. Through its lyrics, Soraya invites us to embrace our own story, reminding us that our true essence is unbreakable and that the brightest light is the one that emerges from within.
